About Baldi Designs

Custom RF Instrumentation & Integrated Support Hardware

Baldi Designs develops custom RF/microwave instrumentation and integrated support hardware for aerospace, defense, remote sensing, and high-reliability test applications. The company’s capabilities span requirements formulation, design, integration, test, and delivery of hardware for programs requiring stable performance, controlled interfaces, and reliable operation.

Direct involvement from the principal engineer is maintained through formulation and design, where RF performance is evaluated together with electrical, mechanical, thermal, power, and control considerations to support practical system trades, efficient customization, and streamlined integration. The result is purpose-built instrumentation aligned to program interfaces, operating constraints, and SWaP-C objectives for applications where standard equipment platforms fall short.

Technical Leadership

Baldi Designs is led by Chad A. Baldi, an RF and microwave instrument engineer with more than two decades of experience developing remote sensing instrumentation and precision RF test systems for spaceflight and operational applications. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Chad has contributed to planetary and Earth science flight programs with NASA and international partners, including the Surface Water and Ocean Topography mission, Mars Sample Return, the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer mission, the EnVision Venus mission, and the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover mission, where he served as Product Delivery Lead for the descent stage landing radar. His work includes the design and development of flight hardware assemblies and precision RF support equipment platforms for qualifying radar and telecom flight systems.

In addition to flight program work, Chad has extensive experience developing microwave and mmWave radar and radiometer systems through W-band for fixed, mobile, and airborne deployment platforms. His portfolio includes remote sensing instrumentation for oceanic, atmospheric, and cryospheric research, alongside ground-truth, target tracking, imaging, and defense applications. He has also fielded radar systems for numerous defense and research campaigns, including hurricane reconnaissance missions, as well as severe storm and tornado studies.

Baldi Designs applies this collective experience to specialized hardware development where standard equipment platforms fall short of meeting critical functional or performance requirements.
